Application Summary

University of Mumbai invites online application from eligible candidates for admission in Doctorate programme. The important details of the admission process are listed below -

Course name: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Essential Qualification: 

  • Masters degree should carry at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade B in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in point scale wherever grading system has been followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade will be allowed for those belonging to SC and ST candidates. For other categories of candidates, rules as per the policies of the Government of India will be followed.

  • Qualification in UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF or LS)/SLET/GATE/NBHM/JEST/DBT-BET/DST-INSPIRE or PET conducted by the University of Mumbai / Teachers Fellowship examinations is an essential eligibility criterion.

Educational Qualification:

  • Masters degree in Physics (with a desirable background in either Nuclear Physics, Mathematical Physics, Plasma Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Computational Physics)

  • Masters degree in Chemistry (General, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry or Material Chemistry)

  • Masters degree in Mathematics (with a strong background in Algebra, Topology and Analysis)

  • Masters degree in Biology (Life Sciences, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics)
