Essential Qualification:
Essential for Medical Candidates:
(i) A recognized medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. (Holders of educational qualifications included in Part II of the Third Schedule should also fulfill the conditions stipulated in Section 13 (3) of the said Act); and
(ii) A postgraduate qualification e.g. MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MS (Master of Surgery) or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto in the respective subject/allied discipline.
(iii) For Dentistry: A Post Graduate qualification viz. Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto in the respective subject/allied discipline.
Essential for NonтАУMedical Candidates:
(i) A Postgraduate qualification i.e. MasterтАЩs Degree in the concerned subject or allied discipline and
(ii) A Doctorate degree from a recognized University in the respective subject or allied discipline.
Essential Work Experience:
(a) Four years of teaching experience as a Reader or Associate Professor in a recognized medical college in the concerned specialty.
(b) Three years of teaching experience as an Associate Professor in the concerned specialty in a recognized medical college with minimum of four research publications in indexed or national journals provided that these research publications are published or accepted for publications in the Journals by the National Associations or Societies of the respective specialties as the First Author, and further provided that the requirement of 4 research publications for promotion to the post of Professor should be taken on cumulative basis with a minimum of 2 research publications must be published during the tenure of the Associate Professor.

Note: The transitory period of 4 years w.e.f. 24th July 2009, the appointment or promotion to the post of Associate Professor can be made by the institutes in accordance with the Medical Council of India тАУ тАЬMinimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998тАЭ as prevailing before notification of the Medical Council of India - тАЬMinimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions (Amendment) Regulations, 2009.тАЭ OR
(b) Four years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor in the concerned specialty in a recognized medical college with minimum of two research publications in indexed or national journals provided that these research publications are published or accepted for publications in the Journals by the National Associations or Societies of the respective specialties as the First Author, and further provided that the requirement of two research publications for promotion to the post of Associate Professor should be taken on cumulative basis with a minimum of 2 research publications must be published during the tenure of the Assistant Professor.

(a) For the candidates processing Doctor of Medicine (MD)/ Masters of Surgery (MS) from Medical Council of India recognized medical colleges; Three years teaching experience in the subject as Resident or Registrar or Demonstrator or Tutor in a recognized medical college either during the post-graduate course or after obtaining a postgraduate degree in the subject.
(b) For the candidates possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from Medical Council of India recognized medical colleges or central institutes where the number of doctor of medicine (MD) or Master of Surgery (MS) courses running;
(i) Three years of teaching experience in the subject in a recognized medical college either during the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) course or after possessing the diplomat of national board (DNB) qualification.
(ii) The concerned candidate would also require one year experience of additional teaching or research experience in the concerned subject in a recognized medical college after obtaining the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.
(c) For candidates possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical colleges or central institutes where there are Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Masters of Surgery (MS) courses running; Three years teaching experience in the subject in a recognized medical college either during the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) course or after obtaining Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.

(ii) The concerned candidate would require two years of additional teaching experience as Sr. Resident or Research Associate (CSIR) in a Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical college or central institute.
(iii) Qualification for the post of Assistant Professor Statistician (Community Medicine) is (Qualification: MSc. Statics or MSc. Bio Statics.)
(e) тАЬResearch ExperienceтАЭ:
(i) For the candidates obtaining Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from centers other than Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical colleges or central institutes, the concerned candidate should have a minimum of two publications (accepted or published) in the index journal (National/International as first or second author).
(ii) In case the concerned candidate does not have the required publication, he must have a total of three years of teaching experience in a recognized college or central institute after possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.
