Application Summary
Indian institute of Astrophysics invites application from eligible candidates for Walk-in-Interview for the following posts:
Post Name: Project Assistant
Essential Qualification:
BSc degree in Physics or Mathematics, or any undergraduate degree with Physics as a major, or BEd with science specialization, or BE/BTech with recognized by UGC/AICTE with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
Demonstrable knowledge in basic astronomy concepts, and general physics
Excellent in spoken and written Kannada, and fluent in spoken and written English; ability to explain basic science concepts in Kannada
Good computer skills (Google services, document editing, usage of basic image editing software etc) and ability to type in Kannada
Good at communication, especially with students, and in engaging with local communities
Desirable:
Exposure to basic astronomy in some structured fashion (amateur astronomy, online or inperson astronomy courses, planetarium internships, etc)
Experience in a job involving science (preferably including astronomy) outreach and communication, in a formal or informal capacity, especially in non-urban settings, for at least 6 months
Knowledge of how to operate a telescope and of the night sky Has written about science for magazines, blogs etc in English or Kannada
